1. Develop and plan and implement department strategies, safety activities to achieve departmental goals 2. Implement and maintain the company’s Safety Policies and Procedures. Ensure compliance with company and government safety regulatory requirements. Ensure process safety management efforts are focused to meet both the Company’s requirements and regulatory standards. 3. Perform safety audits and integrity assessments across the organization with a view to identifying potential hazards/risks, vulnerabilities and to devising suitable recommendations for preventative or corrective measures to minimize these. 4. Facilitate accident/incident investigation in instances where there are safety breaches in order to ascertain responsibility and to effectively report on the findings of these investigations. 5. Propose, formulate, revise and implement where necessary safety policy/procedures; ensure that these are consistent with standards and regulations promulgated by government and related agencies; ensure that these subscribe to best practices and adequately protect person, equipment and property. 6. Plan and implement safety training programme for employees at all levels of the organization: i.e. safety orientation, 5 Core and life threatening programmes. 7. Maintain close liaison with supervisors and employees provide guidance on areas of safety to increase their awareness of safety policies and procedures. 8. Prepare and compile safety budget and manage spending within the limits. 9. Liaise with and attends meetings of regulatory authority to report on company performance and resolve compliance issues. 10. Coordinate or provide timely and relevant reports on safety activities to internal or external agencies at established frequencies: Corporate safety, Mines Geology Department, Jamaica Bauxite Mining. 11. Consistently assess the organization to determine the needs to comply with the Safety function. Make recommendations that will improve employee’s compliance to the safety plan. 12. Communicate to the workforce on safety related issues in a manner that enhance awareness and promote involvement. 13. Manage Disaster Preparedness plan. 14. Evaluate the performance of subordinates. 15. Discipline subordinate as per disciplinary schedule
